Location Area

A group of base stations called location area. The boundary of cells

Location area update is required for user mobile when he moves from one location area to next

Mobiles are responsible for detecting LAC

When mobile finds diff location code, it performs another update by sending to network 

Local Area (LA) update request together with iits previous location called ( TMSI) temporary mobile subscriber I

It’s needed to update location if handset.

Subscribes reliability to access network and freedom of mobility within coverage area

Whenever incoming call arrives, paging msg needs to sent in only these location area, where mobile is located.
